Darius Jones, one of the key names in contemporary jazz, arrives in Helsinki to join forces with Finnish stars Antti Lötjönen and Teppo Mäkynen. Alto saxophonist and composer Jones released his latest album fLuXkit Vancouver (i̶t̶s suite but sacred) in September 2023 (Northern Spy / We Jazz Records) to critical acclaim, and scored a #3 place on the coveted Wire Magazine top 50 releases of the year list. Now, the exceptional saxophonist reunites with highly-regarded Finnish musicians, bassist Antti Lötjönen and drummer Teppo Mäkynen, in a new trio that debuted at the 2023 edition of Helsinki's We Jazz Festival. Already their first performances indicated that the three musicians are kindred spirits in musical openness that blends well with each individual's high skill level to communicate musical ideas, and that this combination adds up to much more than its mathematical equation. In other words, this is a BAND, from the first note they played together. We can only expect that their music evolves with each meeting, and that each performance will be well worth attending for all lovers of creative music.
